Sony today announced its plans of rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its various Xperia devices, starting with the Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra from today, with other devices to follow suit later.
The update includes the essential Android 4.4 KitKat OS which brings about performance and UI optimizations. Sony has also added its own customized status bar and quick settings and also tweaked the UI similar to the PlayStation 4.
Sony’s native apps such as Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, Small apps, TrackID, TrackID TV, Sony Select, Smart Social Camera to name a few have all been updated and will all be getting their own tweaks and improvements.
Sony has also integrated its media apps like Walkman, album and movies with its cloud service. Sony will also offer downloadable UI theme packs further allowing users to customize the looks of their devices.
Along with the above devices, Sony also announced the update for the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, Tablet Z, T2 Ultra, E1 and M2. The Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, and Tablet Z will start receiving the update from mid-Q2 while the rest will get it after them.
