6.0.1

Google have released a new albeit a small Marshmallow update – Android 6.0.1 MMB29M build. This comes almost after 2 months of release of Android 6.0. The new update is a mixture of added features and security patches.

Good news for Android users as Google have added lots of new emojis to be on par with Apple. The smileys sent by Apple users which appeared as boxes can now be clearly seen.

Android 6.0.1 now gives older Nexus devices (including the Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9) the ability to open up the camera just by double tapping the power button. It was available in Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X but now even older devices have got it.

A new feature in Do Not Disturb mode has been added which brings back the ability to mute all your notifications until your next scheduled alarm goes off.

Android 6.0.1 has some tablet tweaks as well. The “back” and “home” buttons have been shifted towards the left, while the “overview” multitasking button has been moved to the right.

There are some security patches in this build. It bumps up the Security Patch Level of supported Nexus devices to December 1 2015, meaning that it incorporates all fixes up till this date.

The factory images of Android 6.0.1 are available for the Nexus devices. Do share your experience!
