Along with the fifth generation iPad Air, Apple also unveiled the second generation of iPad’s smaller version – iPad Mini 2. The iPad Mini 2 comes with some features that are already seen in the iPhone 5s.
iPad Mini 2 has a Retina Display. This news will bring some joy to the iPad Mini fans since the previous Mini did not have a Retina Display. iPad Mini 2 comes with a 7.9″ screen which is the same size as that of the iPad Mini. But the new iPad Mini has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 meaning that it has a Full HD display. It doubles the iPad Mini’s 163 ppi to 326 ppi.
The new iPad Mini 2 comes with the 64-bit A7 processor – with the M7 motion coprocessor that was seen in the iPhone 5s. This is a huge upgrade from the A5 processor seen in the first generation iPad Mini. The A7 processor of iPad Mini 2 is four times faster than its predecessor, as well as providing 8x faster graphics processing.
iPad Mini 2 has the same 5 MP camera that was seen in the original iPad Mini. It features 1080p video recording. There have been some improvements in the FaceTime HD Camera. One thing missing is the Touch ID sensor that will disappoint many users.
iPad Mini 2 has two color options – Space Gray and Silver. It comes with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB as well as 128GB storage with either WiFi or Cellular + WiFi options.
The WiFi only version starts at $399 for the 16GB, $499 for the 32GB, $599 for the 64GB model and $699 for 128GB. The Cellular + WiFi version will start at $529 for the 16GB, $629 for the 32GB, $729 for the 64GB and $829 for the 128GB.
iPad Mini 2 is expected to be available from late November.
