Nexus 7 is one of the leading devices to ventures into the newly formed segment of 7″ tabs. Being in the likes of iPad mini this tab is up for a contest. It is a powerful device from Asus. Though being a tab this device did not receive a proper tab like interface due to it’s mere 7″ screen. Though Nexus 7 has receivedĀ a Jellybean 4.2 update, it continues to look like a phone’s interface.

Paranoid android is a Custom ROM which you might have come across. It is the only custom ROM that allows you to set phone mode, phablet mode as well as tab mode, as per your need. The Nexus 7 is one of those devices that truly requires such an ROM. Being an “phablet” (phone + tablet). This “phablet mode” is a hybrid mode of phone and tablet which get the best of both worlds. This ROM is yet under development hence also faces a few bugs, but then which ROM is truly bug free?

It is stable enough to be used as an every day ROM. It realizes per app screen density, which means that screen density can be set from app to app. You can also set per app colors and per app layout as per your need. This allows to set any tablet ready app to run on your phone or a phone app on your tab. The steps to install this ROM on your device are as gives below.



  1. Download all necessary zip files and place them in your Nexus 7.
  2. Now power off your device.
  3. Press and hold the volume up + volume down + power button till you enter recovery mode.
  4. Now select the option “wipe data/factory reset”
  5. Once that is done navigate to “install zip from sd card” and install the paranoid android custom ROM.
  6. After that is successfully completed flash the gapps zip.
  7. Now go to advanced and select wipe Dalvik cache.
  8. Select reboot to recovery and you are ready to use your new Custom ROM!
  9. Once you boot into your device to set the device in phone mode, phablet mode or tab mode simple go to “system settings>>paranoid android settings>> launch” and select the mode of your choice.
