Google has announced their next I/O conference on May 28 and 29. This conference may have the announcement of the new Nexus device. According to various sources, the new Nexus will be manufactured by Huawei.
Some sources suggest that the Huawei Nexus will have a Samsung-made 5.7in OLED display offering 2K resolution at 1440×2560 pixels. It will be powered by Snapdragon 810 processor.
The idea of 2K resolution is in stark contrast to some of the quotes of the Huawei CEO. Huawei CEO Richard Yu had said in an interview, “I don’t think we need QHD display on mobiles. Your eyes totally cannot identify between full HD and 2K on a smartphone. You can’t distinguish the difference, so it’s totally nonsense.”
“We can [put a QHD display on a smartphone], but it’s very bad for power consumption and it does not offer anything in return. Your eyes cannot see the difference, so why should we do that? I think it’s a stupid thing,” Yu added.
Some earlier reports suggested that LG are back in contention for the new Nexus device and after the success of Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, LG may have an upper hand.
