Motorola launched the budget and lower spec version of the Moto X smartphone, the Moto G. The phone boasts of specs typically found nowadays in high-end devices but comes at a comparatively lower cost than them. It is powered by a quad-core processor but is priced starting from only $179 and that too off-contract. Motorola is aiming to target the mid-range market with this device but seeing the high specs, one wouldn’t be surprised if it challenges even the high-end phones.
The Moto G has a 4.5 inch display, compared to the Moto X’s 4.7, but has the same 1280×720 pixel resolution. It is powered by a quad core 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1 GB of RAM. The internal storage includes two options of either being 8 GB or 16 GB along with 50 GB space on Google Drive free for two years. It runs on Android 4.3 at present with Motorola promising an Android 4.4 update for it in January 2014.
The rear camera is a 5 MP one with LED flash, 4x digital zoom, slow motion video, burst mode, auto HDR, panorama and tap-to-focus features. It also has a 1.3 MP front camera for video calling. It has a 2070 mAh non-removable battery which Motorola says will run all day. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB port, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and GPS and GLONASS.
The Moto G will be available in various color options including black, turquoise and purple. The 8 GB model will cost $179 whereas the 16 GB one will cost $199. Both the models will be off contract and unlocked. The smartphone will be available for purchase in Brazil and parts of Europe this week and will be available within the next few weeks throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia. The US, India, the Middle East and more parts of Asia will get the Moto G in January.
