Nokia was acquired by Microsoft for its devices and services business. But this agreement is set to end in 2016. Nokia launched an Android powered tablet earlier and they are set to launch an Android smartphone in 2016.
Mike Wang, president of Nokia’s operations in China, has indicated that his company will set up a brand-new R&D centre in Sichuan for the manufacture of exclusive smartphones.
So as a part of this plan, Nokia is set to launch the Nokia C1 running on Android Lollipop. It will have all the high end specs – 5in display with 1920×1080 resolution, 2.8GHz quad-core Intel processor, 20.1 MP primary camera, 5MP secondary camera and 3GB RAM.
Nokia was a a giant in the mobile world before the smartphones came into existence. As Android and iOS gained popularity, Nokia’s market share continued to decline. Now Nokia is trying to claw back its way up. It will be interesting to see how successful Nokia will be on Android platform.
