Galaxy Round

After lots of rumors and speculation, Samsung has officially announced Samsung Galaxy Round. The Galaxy Round is the world’s first smartphone with a curved display. We had earlier reported that it would be a Galaxy Note 3 variant and it has partly turned out to be true. LG are also soon going to launch their curved display smartphone.

The biggest highlight is obviously the huge 5.7″ screen with a curved display. The huge screen is a Super Flexible AMOLED with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). Rest of the specifications are almost the same as the recently launched Note 3.

The Galaxy Round is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with quad-core Krait CPU clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in memory, and microSD card slot. It has a primary camera of 13MP as well as a 2MP secondary camera. It will run on latest Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS with a layer of Touchwiz UI over it.

With the Galaxy Round, Samsung has introduced two new features. With the “Role Effect” feature, if you tilt the phone on its axis, it’ll trigger a glance screen with the date, time, missed call and battery information. This works even when the home screen is in sleep mode. The “Gravity Effect” promises to expand the role of gestures by rocking the device with a finger to see a music-focused interface that highlights your tunes.

There is also the “Bounce UX” which turns on music player shortcuts even while the screen is off. While the player is going, pressing one side of the screen plays the previous track while pressing the other plays the next track, and you can use tilt controls to trigger video playback.

Samsung Galaxy Round is so far only announced for South Korea in Luxury Brown color. It will cost approximately $1,000. The international availability of the Galaxy Round has not been announced by Samsung.
