Samsung plans to release a smartphone with a curved display next month. There were some rumors going on about this development and Samsung’s mobile business head of strategic marketing D.J. Lee has confirmed during the launch of Galaxy Note 3 in South Korea that the company is planning to release a device with a curved display in South Korea in October.
No further details were revealed during the launch of the Note 3. However some rumors suggest that the curved smartphone will be a limited edition of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
In January, Samsung showed off prototype products with a flexible screen and a display that extends from the side of a device. But doubts still persist on how it can be produced in mass cheaply.
Curved display is already commercially available in large-screen televisions. Samsung has started selling curved OLED TV sets this year priced at about $9,000.
The curved display is still at an early stage of development but it promises to radically change the smartphone market.
