SMS have always been a core part of a mobile phone. The Advent of smartphones however has somewhat diminished the importance of SMSes in mobile phones. Any further development in the way people SMS has come to a grinding halt. This slowdown has been caused by faster and better IM services like Whatsapp, Line, WeChat, etc. In Android the messaging app has not been much modified much with OS updates. The Messaging app in Jellybean 4.2 is almost same as in Gingerbread with only the adoption of HOLO theme and a few minor features. But the base app remains unchanged.

Even with the latest generation of IM services gaining massive popularity a large portion of people continue to use SMS as the primary messaging service. Here, I present you with a great alternative for the stock messaging app for Android called as the Sliding Message. This app is built for devices running ICS and above(4.0+). The app is developed by klinker41.

This app is not just a visual improvement to the stock messaging app, but also offers many convenient features which make messaging a breeze. The biggest feature of the app,as the name suggests, is the sliding interface. The app offers you a unconventional sliding interface which allows you to use the sliding action to your advantage. When you slide you flick your finger on the screen from left to right or right to left you can switch between contact threads. When you slide your finger from the left edge of the screen you can access the entire list of contacts. If you slide from the right edge of the screen you can compose a new message. This app not only offers you great features, but also retains the stock interface. There are many messaging apps available in Google Play like the Go SMS, Handcent SMS, etc. but all of these apps have either advertisements or are too cluttered.
