[How To] Install Official CyanogenMod 11 ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100)

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is still one of the most popular and widely used smartphone. As a result, development for it is still strong with many developers regularly releasing their latest ROM builds that can be installed on the device. And now, the CyanogenMod team have rolled out their ROM based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The CM 11 nightlies are now up and running on their website and are ready to be installed on the Galaxy S2, enabling its users to experience Android 4.4.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 was launched in 2011 and had a 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen. It was powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. It had 16/32 GB internal storage options which could be further expanded by 32 GB via microSD card. It also had a 8 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front facing camera. It originally ran on Android 2.3.4 and was later upgradable to Android 4.1. [How To] Install Android 4.4 (Omni ROM) on Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100G)

The Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100G) variant is the one which runs on the TI OMAP 4430 chipset and PowerVR SGX540 GPU as opposed to the Exynos chipset and the Mali-400MP GPU that is found in the GT-I9100 variant. Apart from these features, both have the same 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus screen, 1.2 GHz dual core Cortex-A9 processor, 1 GB RAM, 16/32 GB internal storage which was further expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card, 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front facing camera and 1650 mAh battery. Both originally ran on Android 2.3.4 and while the GT-I9100 variant was later upgradable to Android 4.1, the GT-I9100G variant received an Android 4.1.2 update. The official CyanogenMod 11 (CM 11) ROM is still a few days away from releasing. In the mean time though, many unofficial ROMs have been developed that allows users to run Android 4.4 on their devices. We had seen how to install CM 11 ROM on the Samsung Galaxy S and also on the Samsung Galaxy S4. Now, an unofficial CM 11 ROM has also come out for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100). Developed by XDA Recognized Developer Wayland_ACE, the ROM seems to be free of any major bugs and best of all, allows users to experience the Android KitKat OS on their devices.
