How To Root your Sony Xperia S

Here is a tutorial to Root your Sony Xperia S with locked bootloaders.

  • You must be running the latest ICS Android v4.0 – 6.1.A.0.452 firmware. To check if you are running this version go to Settings > > About Phone
  • Download the Superuser flashable zip file from here.
  • Download Nozomi Recovery from here.
  • Download the kernel to be flashed from here.
  • You also need to install the Android SDK onto your PC. If you haven’t already done that, you may download it and install it.
  • Make sure USB Debugging is enabled from Settings > > Developer Options > > USB Debugging.

We recommend taking a backup with Nandroid or Titanium backup; so that you can always recover all your data back, in case something goes wrong!

Step-by-Step Procedure:

Step 1: Navigate to C:/android-sdks/platform-tools/ and place the recovery file here.

Step 2: Hold Shift key + Right Click the mouse and Select open a new command prompt here.

Step 3: Connect your phone to the PC and type the following in the command window that you opened in the earlier step: adb reboot-bootloader This will reboot your phone in fastboot mode and turn the LED blue.

Step 4: Now in the command prompt window type: fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img

Step 5: Once this is done, Unplug the device and Reboot the device normally. Again connect the mobile to the PC and place the Supersuer file in the root of SDcard.

Step 6: Type in the command window: abd reboot recovery Now your phone will enter Recovery mode. In the recovery mode, Select flash zip from SDcard and flash the superuser zip file..

Step 7: Reboot into system via the recovery.

Step 8: Extract the kernel.rar file and place the kernel.sin file in C:/android-sdks/platform-tools/

Step 9: Repeat step 3 to enter fastboot and type in the command prompt: fastboot flash boot kernel.sin

Step 10: Reboot into system and see if there is a SuperSU App in the App list.

CONGRATULATIONS, you successfully Rooted the Xperia S!
