Disable Notifications of individual apps in Android Jellybean 4.1+

One of androids best features since it’s early inception is the status bar. The status bar is a pull down UI component, that always persists on your android device’s screen and can be pulled down to view notifications and other useful information like the time, battery status, signal strength, etc. App Notifications are very useful in many ways. They help apps to inform you of events that occur like messages received, reminders, chat pings or any other app specific events. However some apps have a tendency to pester you with useless notifications. Such apps keep sending you notifications of menial events with are not important to you. They do not have options to disable these notifications either.
