If you’ve never heard of VoIP, get ready to change the way you think about long-distance phone calls. Owning an iPhone is cool but there are those with other iDevice who cannot call via their sim card so here are some VoIP app which will help iPhone as well as iPad and iPod Touch user to call.

What is VoIP? Why is it useful?

The full form of VoIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol, with this you can use your internet as a transmission medium for telephone calls. In other words VoIP can turn a standard Internet connection into a way to place free phone calls. The practical upshot of this is that by using some of the free VoIP software that is available to make Internet phone calls, you’re bypassing the phone company (and its charges) entirely.

1. Skype
Skype is an preferred app for VoIP calling because of its popularity. Skype is available for the major operating system like Android, Windows and obviously for iOS. Its popularity play an important part for communicating with your family and friends (whether domestic or international) for free, you see calling on Skype to a non-Skype device will cost you but if Skype to Skype is for free and  almost everyone has an Skype id.

2. Fring
Fring is one little brilliant app for those who want to video chat. Unlike facetime you can chat with your Android, Symbian and iOS friends. Fring allows you to make free calls to all of your Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo! and AIM friends. Fring offers push notifications. Its one of our favourite app as it can also be used by other than iPhone users (iPod Touch and iPad)

3. Viber
The best thing about Viber is you don’t require have an account or a credit card to use this app. Like skype the other user must also have Viber to call for free it will only charge you if the other person doesn’t have this App. The upside with this app is this doesn’t have any add and can call for free as long as the other person have this app installed where ever he/she might be in the world. It supports many devices like Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Bada and iOS.
