The Android 4.4.2 update for the Nexus 10 is now live and can be easily installed on your device by downloading it via OTA. The update comes with some security enhancements and bug fixes for the tablet. If you are among the unlucky ones who are yet to receive the OTA update, you can follow this guide and manually install the update on your Nexus 10. The OTA links of the updates have been captured and you can easily install by either adb sideloading it or by flashing it via a custom recovery. Users who are still on Android 4.4 can also install the update, the links and procedure for which have been mentioned below.

Pre-requisites and Backing up your Nexus 10:

Method 1 (via Custom Recovery):

Requirements:

  • Nexus 10 must be running on either stock Android 4.4 KRT16S or stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E
  • OTA Survival must be disabled if you’re using SuperSU v1.69 or older
  • Nexus 10 must be rooted
  • Bootloader unlocked
  • Custom Recovery like CWM or TWRP installed
  • Official Android 4.4.2 update zip file (Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4 KRT16S / Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E)

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and copy it to the root of the internal storage of your Nexus 10.
  2. Turn off your device and boot into recovery.
  3. Now select “Install Zip”, then “Select Zip” and choose the official Android 4.4.2 update zip.
  4. After the installation is complete, reboot your device.

Your Nexus 10 has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.

Method 2 (via ADB):

Requirements:

  • Nexus 10 must be running on either stock Android 4.4 KRT16S or stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E
  • OTA Survival must be disabled if you’re using SuperSU v1.69 or older
  • Android SDK installed on your computer
  • Official Android 4.4.2 update zip file (Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4 KRT16S / Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E)

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file to your computer.
  2. Reboot your device and while it is booting up, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. The fastboot menu will now appear on screen. Keep on pressing the Volume Up button until you see Recovery and then press the Power button to enter it.
  4. You will now see an Android with a red exclamation point. Press Volume Up and Power buttons together and select “apply update from adb”.
  5. Connect your tablet to your computer via USB.
  6. Now go to the location where you downloaded the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and open a command window there by pressing Shift button of the keyboard and Right Click button of your mouse.
  7. Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4:
    adb sideload 1df84726f51ec49ef17741aec06ae10ff16c8521.signed-mantaray-KOT49H-from-KRT16S.1df84726.zip

    Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4.1:
    adb sideload f9195e9c509dbbaa734df03138b11b7f66a7f09d.signed-mantaray-KOT49H-from-KOT49E.f9195e9c.zip

  8. The installation process will now begin. After it is completed, reboot your device.

Your Nexus 10 has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.
