Google has now started rolling out the Android 4.4.3 update via OTA to the Nexus 5 as well. The update brings about bug fixes along with a new dialer app. The OTA links have been captured through which users who are yet to receive the update can download and install it manually. The following instructions illustrate two methods by which the update can be installed. Choose the one that suits you best and enjoy the latest Android OS on your Nexus 5.

Pre-requisites and Backing up your Nexus 5:

Method 1 (via Custom Recovery):

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.3 update zip file and copy it to the root of the internal storage of your Nexus 5.
  2. Turn off the device and boot into recovery mode.
  3. Next select “install zip”, then “select zip” and choose the Android 4.4.3 update zip file.
  4. After the installation is complete, reboot your device.

You have successfully updated your Nexus 5 to official Android 4.4.3.

Method 2 (via ADB):

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.3 update zip file to your computer.
  2. Reboot your device and while it is booting up, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. You will now see the fastboot menu. Keep on pressing the Volume Up button until you see Recovery and then press the Power button to enter it.
  4. An Android with a red exclamation point will now appear on the screen. Press Volume Up and Power buttons together and select “apply update from adb”.
  5. Connect your device to your computer via USB.
  6. Now go to the location where you downloaded the official Android 4.4.3 update zip file and open a command window there by pressing Shift button of the keyboard and Right Click button of your mouse.
  7. Type the following code:
    adb sideload d173d546ab2347ead90cb0978657f11046300511.signed-hammerhead-KTU84M-from-KOT49H.d173d546.zip
  8. The update will now be installed on your Nexus 5. After the installation is complete, reboot your device.

You have successfully updated your Nexus 5 to official Android 4.4.3.
