The 2012 edition Nexus 7 tablets received the official Android 4.4 update from Google but were overlooked for the Android 4.4.1 update that the other Nexus devices received. And after Google started rolling out Android 4.4.2 update for the same devices, the users of the Nexus 7 must have kept their fingers crossed hoping that their devices would receive it too. Luckily for them, Google did roll out the update for the devices and users were able to install it via OTA. Pre-requisites and Backing up your Nexus 7 (2012):

Method 1 (via Custom Recovery):

Requirements:

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and copy it to the root of the internal storage of your device.
  2. Turn off the device and boot into bootloader mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down, Volume Up and Power buttons. From there, boot into recovery.
  3. Now select “Install Zip”, then “Select Zip” and choose the official Android 4.4.2 update zip.
  4. Reboot your device after the installation is complete.

You have successfully updated your Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi version tablet to Android 4.4.2.

Method 2 (via ADB):

Requirements:

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file to your computer.
  2. Reboot your device and while it is booting up, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. You will now see the fastboot menu. Keep on pressing the Volume Up button until you see Recovery and then press the Power button to enter it.
  4. An Android with a red exclamation point will now appear on the screen. Press Volume Up and Power buttons together and select “apply update from adb”.
  5. Connect your tablet to your computer via USB.
  6. Now go to the location where you downloaded the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and open a command window there by pressing Shift button of the keyboard and Right Click button of your mouse.
  7. Type the following command:
    adb sideload d72d14131cdfbbc6a758c3234a10fd1fe8d80ce6.signed-nakasi-KOT49H-from-KRT16S.d72d1413.zip
  8. The update will now be installed on your Nexus 7. After the installation is complete, reboot your device.

You have successfully updated your Nexus 7 (2012) Wi-Fi version tablet to Android 4.4.2.
