The Nexus 7 (2013) LTE version tablet is among the list of Nexus devices to receive the latest Android 4.4.2 update from Google. The update, which covers some bug fixes and security improvements for the Nexus devices, is available for users to install directly on their tablet via OTA. For users who are already on stock Android 4.4.1, the update size is 1.67 MB whereas for those of you who are still on stock Android 4.4, a 52.78 MB update will take you straight to Android 4.4.2. If you are yet to receive the update via OTA, you can manually install it by following either of the two methods mentioned below. The methods do take into consideration both the types of users discussed above.

Pre-requisites and Backing up your Nexus 7 (2013):

Method 1 (via Custom Recovery):

Requirements:

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and copy it to the root of the internal storage of your Nexus 7 (2013).
  2. Turn off the device and boot into bootloader mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down, Volume Up and Power buttons. From there, boot into recovery.
  3. Now tap on “Install”, select the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and perform “Swipe to Confirm Flash”.
  4. Reboot your device after the installation is complete.

Your Nexus 7 (2013) LTE tablet has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.

Method 2 (via ADB):

Requirements:

  • Nexus 7 (2013) LTE tablet must be running on either stock Android 4.4 KRT16S or stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E
  • Android SDK installed on your computer
  • Official Android 4.4.2 update zip file (Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4 KRT16S / Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E)

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file to your computer.
  2. Restart your device and while it is booting up, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. You will now see the fastboot menu. Press the Volume Up button until you see Recovery and then enter it by pressing the Power button.
  4. An Android with a red exclamation point will now appear on the screen. Press Volume Up and Power buttons together and select “apply update from adb”.
  5. Connect your device to your computer via USB.
  6. Now go to the location where you downloaded the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and open a command window there by pressing Shift button of the keyboard and Right Click button of your mouse.
  7. Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4:
    adb sideload f221553ab745f4671e2c2f6a2cb0e4bf857886ea.signed-razorg-KOT49H-from-KRT16S.f221553a.zip

    Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4.1:
    adb sideload 8acb05ed6b0e4a50793b4ab4eabe68ac78838484.signed-razorg-KOT49H-from-KOT49E.8acb05ed.zip

  8. The update will now be installed. After the installation is complete, reboot your device.

Your Nexus 7 (2013) LTE tablet has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.
