The OTA links of the Android 4.4.2 update for the Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi edition tablet have been captured and its users can now manually install the update if they haven’t yet received it via OTA. The minor update can be installed on the tablets running on stock Android 4.4 and stock Android 4.4.1. The update introduces few security improvements and bug fixes for the device. The update can be installed by flashing it through a custom recovery (root required) or by adb sideloading it. The detailed steps and requirements can be found below.

Method 1 (via Custom Recovery):

Requirements:

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and copy it to the root of the internal storage of your tablet.
  2. Turn off the device and boot into bootloader mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down, Volume Up and Power buttons. From there, boot into recovery.
  3. Now tap on “Install”, select the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and perform “Swipe to Confirm Flash”.
  4. Reboot your device after the installation is complete.

Your Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi version tablet has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.

Method 2 (via ADB):

Requirements:

  • Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi version tablet must be running on either stock Android 4.4 KRT16S or stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E
  • Android SDK installed on your computer
  • Official Android 4.4.2 update zip file (Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4 KRT16S / Download this file if you are on stock Android 4.4.1 KOT49E)

Steps:

  1. Download the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file to your computer.
  2. Restart your device and while it is booting up, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  3. You will now see the fastboot menu. Press the Volume Up button until you see Recovery and then enter it by pressing the Power button.
  4. An Android with a red exclamation point will now appear on the screen. Press Volume Up and Power buttons together and select “apply update from adb”.
  5. Connect your device to your computer via USB.
  6. Now go to the location where you downloaded the official Android 4.4.2 update zip file and open a command window there by pressing Shift button of the keyboard and Right Click button of your mouse.
  7. Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4:
    adb sideload 6216288dd8f9416bb6b6bab78f7db0fbc012cd8f.signed-razor-KOT49H-from-KRT16S.6216288d.zip

    Type the following code if coming from stock Android 4.4.1:
    adb sideload 53b653b9e8b209fa7bcd8ee1ca1d9b12e7ae6675.signed-razor-KOT49H-from-KOT49E.53b653b9.zip

  8. The update will now be installed. After the installation is completed, reboot your device.

Your Nexus 7 (2013) Wi-Fi version tablet has been successfully updated to Android 4.4.2.
